There could hardly have been a more fitting setting for the opening games of such an important season, with Llandaff taking on Llandaff North before facing Cardiff & East District in the second game of the afternoon.
With a big Llandaff crowd in attendance, the day was about far more than just the results. It was an opportunity for players, coaches, supporters and families to come together and celebrate the beginning of a very special year for the club.
Llandaff North First Up
The first challenge of the afternoon came against local rivals Llandaff North.
Despite the occasion and the unfamiliar surroundings, Llandaff settled quickly and produced a strong performance to come away with a 26–7 victory.
The game provided another valuable opportunity for the squad to put the work from pre-season into practice, with plenty of players getting important minutes as preparations for the new campaign continue.
It was a strong opening performance and set the tone for what was to come later in the afternoon.
District Challenge
With little time to rest, the squad returned to the Arms Park for the second game of the double header against Cardiff & East District.
Once again, Llandaff showed plenty of energy and intensity, producing another impressive performance to secure a 27–12 victory.
Two games, two wins and plenty of positives to take away.
The double header was exactly what pre-season should be about — giving players valuable game time, building combinations and allowing the coaching team to continue assessing the squad ahead of the competitive season.
A Special Day for Llandaff RFC
While the two victories were certainly something to celebrate, Saturday was ultimately about marking the beginning of Llandaff RFC’s 150th season.
To do so at Cardiff Arms Park, the home of Cardiff Rugby, made the occasion even more memorable. The Arms Park has such a huge place in Welsh rugby history, and seeing Llandaff players take to the field there as part of our own 150-year celebrations was a proud moment for everyone connected with the club.
A huge thank you must go to Llandaff North and Cardiff & East District for being part of such a special day and for helping make the occasion one to remember.
We would also like to thank everyone who came down to support the boys. The noise from the Llandaff crowd throughout the afternoon made the day feel truly special.
And, of course, a huge thank you to everyone involved behind the scenes in making the double header possible.
Two games. Two wins. A fantastic crowd. And the perfect way to begin our 150th season.
The 150th season is officially underway.
There is plenty more to come. ?
