Our return fixture against St Peters saw a tremendous improvement on the performance earlier in the season. We have made great strides and gave them a much harder game on a sticky pitch. However, there are still lots of things to work on.
We split into 2 teams and played 3 games. Rhys captained one team as a reward for his recent improvement and continued with his good form with yet another good performance. Dylan and Rhydian deserve special mention for their performances. Dylan made some great runs in his effortless style and took some well taken tries. Rhydian was everywhere and his tagging was awesome. He capped this off with a barnstorming run down the touch line to score in the corner. Oliver was man of the match due to his combination of tags, tries but also supportive running to collect a few passes to score in the corner. Support running is as important as running with the ball! Macs and Rhys made a great contribution along with our new player Lewis who made some good runs and also took a few important tags.
The other team was captained by Matthew who despite passing a late fitness test was not at his best today, he only scored 2 scintillating tries. He was limping on one leg which seemed to result in a natural sidestep! Cadog and Alfie were at their abrasive best. We want to put a GPS on Jake for the next match as one of his many meandering tries was estimated at approximately 300metres which is no mean feat on a 40 metre pitch! Aaron would have scored many more great tries if he had not put a foot in touch on a few occasions turning the ball over to the opposition. Stay in field boys and girls.
The great performance was slow to start because there was too much bunching and bumping into each other as our own players fought with each other to get their hands on the ball. Take your time and don't get in each others way.
In one game we managed to take a full set of 6 tags on 2 occasions in a row which was by far the best defensive display this season. Well done lads. We ended up winning that game by at least 2 tries which goes to show how important defence is.
Special mention to Toby who scored some fantastic tries showing great balance off both feet bringing a round of applause from both sets of supporters. Toby backed this up with some superb tagging earning him the most improved award for this week.
We still want to see more passing when our players run out of space or just need to move the ball to where the space is without having to run across the pitch. Good performances were also noted by Sante, Eos, Joseff and Edward.
There were many tries scored by both sides in 6 well refereed games but Llandaff held their heads high and came away with a much improved draw 3-3
