On a cold wet and windswept morning in Penarth the under 7's were out in force again. Mathew had come to an arrangement with his dad to come for the first 30 minutes despite having a party to attend as he said to Colin "I don't want to let my team down".
We quickly split into two teams. Toby captained one team and Jake the other. The cold conditions meant most of the team couldn't feel their hands which made it difficult to pass and catch. Toby's team started well and Penarth had some pacey incisive runners who were difficult to tag. Although we weren't as direct as Penarth we scored a lot of tries with some very elusive running particularly form Edward, Toby and Rhidian. Rhys joined in with a winding run through the entire Penarth team that resulted in a spectacular score in the corner. Sante had one of his best games and made metres with every run. Oliver battled away scoring plenty of tries with some really good angles. Eddie had a few powerful charges and Joseff ghosted through many tackles. We narrowly lost the first game by a couple of tries however, the second game was ours from the start as although swapping tries early on Penarth dwindled in numbers as the cold conditions took their toll. There was only one man standing in the penarth side for the second half resulting in a walk over win for the resilient Llandaff team. Despite difficult conditions the boys showed great character and i think enjoyed themselves more than they thought they would.

In the other match Jake led the team superbly and played a true captains role, he supported his runnners very well and scored some lovely tries. Matthew was also in fine form, this boy makes Shane Williams look like a traffic cone with his fast feet and the wonderful abilty to change his direction of running without losing any pace, he scored a number of beautiful tries with even the referee stopping to applaud his performance. Evan had his best game to date, he made some great tags despite being really cold, Lewis continues to improve with every match and Alfie, Luke and George played with real determination. Aaron was another player to suffer with the cold but was determined not to let the team down and really got stuck in with some nice running and some lovely passes which resulted in tries for his team mates, well done Aaron!!!! Carwyn continued his great form from last week and is really turning into a fine player, he showed a fantastic turn of foot to dance down the line to score twice in the corner from the kick off, I know his dad and granddad were really proud of him as he received a fantastic ovation from the crowd.

A great performance from all the guys this weekend, thank you to all the parents who stood in the freezing cold to lend their support to the team, I promise better weather next week!!!

The awards this week went to Captain Fantastic Jake and the most improved player was the wing wizard Carwyn.
