Llandaff welcomed Rhiwbina on a wet morning but milder than of late. We split to two squads of ten and Rhiwbina did the same. The first team skippered by Joseff performed well from the start. Plenty of good tagging was seen especially when we realised we had to realign to defend wider to stop their quick runners after the first tag. Eddie, Sante and Joseff took great tags. What was clear as the game progressed was that although Rhiwbina had some quick runners who scored a lot of tries we scored just as many but made more passes definitely giving us a moral victory. We were delighted at the performances of Oliver, Edward and Cadog ably supported by Toby and Carwyn. Alfie was the star player backing up last weeks player of the week because as well as tagging and passing he showed great support running and took some short passes to round off some wonderful tries off the good work of others. Special mention to all the team who respected the referees decisions even if they thought they were incorrect. we were just edged in the first game by 2 tries 6-8 but responded well in the second winning 8-6.
On the second pitch there were two close matches which was played in a good spirit, captains for the day were Luke & Declan who supported the team very well. The first match was very close with both team scoring some lovely tries, Aaron & Dylan were making some nice runs and really testing the Rhiwbina defence. Matthew was on fire once more, making tags and scoring tries that wouldn't look out of place on Scrum five. George had his best game to date, he really went for it and came alive when ever he got the ball. Rhydian was another player who performed well, always looking for space and supporting his fellow team mates, he was really thinking about what he was doing and how he could help the team. Megan, Macsen & James all contributed to the team effort whilst Jake was his usual whirlwind self, scoring tries in the corners at every opportunity and really working hard for the team, I've started to call him Ritchie McCaw as he spends a lot of his time offside but is now getting the hang of it!!! Both games were very close, we narrowly edged the first one and drew the second which was great for the team as they tried so hard.
Players of the week was a difficult choice, but in the end George got the most improved player and Rhydian got player of the week.
See you next week.
