So, we put two sides in to the district tournament at Glamorgan Wanderers and neither side progressed out of the group stages. Despite the marvellous buffet supplied by Neil and the sunny weather supplied by .........there were lots of unhappy faces and disgruntled boys at the end of play.
This is good. It shows a desire to want to do better even if at the time they don't have the spirit to change the outcome. Winning takes hard work from the whole team, it's not enough to have one or two triers in a team with other boys just making up the numbers. Or boys who are happy to take part when attacking but not interested in defending or tagging. We can't moan about the decisions taken by referees about whether or not someone steps into touch. We have to pick our heads up, encourage each other, work hard at the next phase play and learn from our mistakes.

This team has progressed and made some quite large steps in skills this season. We are mostly running forwards rather than backwards, if a little lateral at times. We are making good passes and off-loads, often before the tag, to someone in a better position. Our catching has improved significantly. The boys are all stepping and spinning to avoid contact and spatial awareness is improving.

You should all be proud of the way you played at the weekend. It's right that you are disappointed when you don't play well or you lose but try to change it on the pitch by listening to your coaches, changing the things that aren't working, cutting down on errors such as running into touch, encouraging each other and keeping your chins up rather than blaming other people and things you can't control.
