Cold but perfect conditions for our trip up the road to Rumney in the quarter finals of the Cup.

Whilst the two teams had met just a couple of weeks ago, no one doubted that the challenge would be different. Llandaff were missing a number of players due to a Cathedral School tournament, and we had the added challenge of only 16 players so everyone was praying for no injuries.

Llandaff started the match very well and an early try from the Captain Charlie got the momentum going ,but it was Harry A’s place kick from out wide that stole the show, what a kick!!!. Llandaff began to grow in confidence and great running by the back line brought tries for Macsen, Karl and Harvey with another place kick by Harry. Rumney were never out of the game and put up a strong challenge and ended the half the better team. Half time score 14-24.

Rumney started the second half as they finished the first and got there just reward with another converted try bringing the score to 21-24. Nerves began to grow as Rumney could smell blood and piled on the pressure. Excellent tackling kept Rumney at bay and nothing optimised the effort more than the performance put in by man of the match Tom S. Huge tackles stop Rumney time and time again and Tom capped off an amazing performance by winning the ball at breakdown and making the hard-earned yards up the pitch. Llandaff managed to regain composure and swing the momentum in their favour.

Further tries from Charlie, Gruff and two from Macsen allowed Llandaff to pull away as the second half progressed. A couple of great kicks by Gruff meant at the final whistle the score was 21-48. The final score may have flattered Llandaff a little but what all the coaches and parents would be proud of is the performance every player put in. A MASSIVE team effort by all they dug in deep to make sure they won this one.
